The Cold Within
By: James Patrick Kinney
Six humans traveled by happenstance
Through the dark and bitter cold
Each one posessed a stick of wood
Or so the story's told
Their dying fire in need of logs
But the first one held hers back
For, of the faces around the fire
She noticed one was black
The next man sitting across the way
Saw not one of his chuch
And he could not bring himself to give
His stick of birch
The third one sat in tattered clothes
And gave his coat a hitch
Why should his stick of wood
Be used to warm the idle rich?
The rich man just sat back and thought
Of all the wealth he had in store
And keeping all that he had earned
From the lazy, shiftless poor
The black man's face bespoke revenge
As the fire passed from his site
All he saw in his stick of wood
Was a chance to spite the white
The last man of this forlorn group
Did nothing but for his gain
Giving only to those who gave to him
Was how he played the game
Their logs held tight in their now-stilled hands
Is proof of human sin
For they did not die from the cold without
They died from the cold within.
I really, really love this poem. It just says so much about prejudice! Isn't it fantastic?!?

It's been a long, long, LONG time. Pretty ridiculous, I know. There's no point in me even having this blog anymore, I guess, but I still haven't gotten rid of it, obviously. There's a lot of history recorded here, and it seems silly to dump it.
So what's new? Too, too much. I can't even write it all. So I won't. Maybe I'll make more frequent updates. Bye.
Until next time...

I am very liberal with the word love. I love EVERYONE and EVERYTHING because I can rarely find as many reasons to hate a person as I can to love them.
Today Julie walked home with Dylan and me. Dylan has an obsession with 1985. The song, not the year--I forgot who sings it. Anyway, it's on his MP3 player, and we were singing it, quite loudly, all the way to my house. It was so much fun. I wonder about that weird high I get after school--it's like I'm insanely giddy. I love being on cloud nine.
You know, life would really suck if there was no bright side. I love being an optimist.
Until next time...

Debbie just hit the wall, she never had it all
One Prozac a day, husband's a CPA
Her dreams went out the door
When she turned twenty-four
Only been with one man
What happened to her plan
She was gonna be an actress
She was gonna be a star
She was gonna shake her ass
On the hood of White Snake's car
Her yellow SUV is now the enemy
Looks at her average life
And nothing has been alright
Since Bruce Springsteen, Madonna
Way before Nirvana
There was U2 and Blondie
And music still on MTV
Her two kids in high school
They tell her that she's uncool
Cause she's still preoccupied

Even 'St. Elmo's Fire'

Thought she'd get a hand
On a member of Duran Duran
Where's the mini-skirt made of snake skin
And who's the other guy that's singing in Van Halen
When did reality become TV
Whatever happened to sitcoms, game shows

Without sadness there would be no happiness, because without sadness, happiness would have no meaning.
That's what I tell myself when I'm feeling blue. It works, usually. I'm not blue today, though. I'm more purple today.

I like to watch people. Not in a weird creepy stalker kind of way, just in an I'm-a-complete-stranger-and-I-think-you-seem-completely-fascinating way. Because, really, people are really interesting. Think about it.
There are estimated over six billion people in this world.
THAT'S A LOT!!!
None of them, not ONE looks exactly alike (even identical twins have small differences--NO ONE looks exactly alike!)
That's amazing.
Each and every one of them has thoughts and hopes and dreams.
That are THEIR OWN.
Each and every one of them has relationships, good or bad.
And those relationships BELONG TO THAT PERSON! They are the, for lack of a better word, property, of that individual! UNIQUE!
Each and every one of them can think, and can think (if they so choose) individually.
I watch tv (occasionally). I frequently read books that could be written by people--realistic fiction. Most of them are the "girls in high school" books. You know, with the bitching about how fat they are, how their eyes are too far apart, their nose is too big, their teeth aren't straight enough or white enough, they need a bigger chest, and oh this girl has long straight thick blonde hair and mine is short curly poopy brown hair and blah, blah, blah...
If there are any people who are seriously like that, I feel so sorry for you.
It's about time that we as a race started embracing our individuality. I mean REALLY embracing it, and letting others do the same. No, we are not doing that now. We aren't anywhere close to shedding lables and brand names and plastic surgery. I can't imagine us ever GETTING that far. I mean, honestly. I look in the mirror and see about ten things wrong with myself, in the time span of maybe a minute, at the most. That's sad. It really is. I WANT everyone to be an individual, I myself want to be just me, and I find myself subconsciencely conforming to today's standard of beauty.
I am NOT a skinny little twig.
And that does NOT make me ugly.
SCREW SOCIETY'S RULES!!!
We're the ones who enforce them, you know.
So next time you look in the mirror and notice all the things wrong with you, remember, there is no one in this world who is exactly like you. NO one. You are completely unique. And no matter what society says, there is no real definition of beauty, except what our pitiful human selves enforce.

A situation can really only be as bad as you make it out to be--within limits. Instead of complaining, try to look on the BRIGHT side. And if that doesn't work, compare your life to somebody worse off. You'll feel worlds better. Because honestly, complaining is, well, annoying. Not that I don't complain, I do, but that doesn't mean it isn't annoying. It is. So try not to.
Sorry. I get preachy some times, but I never mean to. Complaining really irks me. I guess there are times when it's acceptable, or at least understandable, to complain, but those are few and far between.
Until Next Time...

It occurs to me that the world is fast spinning out of control. At the moment, there is more good then bad. But who knows. The scales could tip at any time. Tomorrow. Next week. If we don't slow down, I hate to think of the consequences. They could be horrible. Seriously.
Until Next Time...

I wonder where all the used up time goes. I mean, does it just sorta...disappear, or is there a whole storage place of used time? Wouldn't it be cool if you could buy second-hand time? Or if you could make a time machine? What's cooler then a time machine? Do I hear nothing? Well...maybe not nothing. But certainly not many things.
Okay, that little blip aside now...
How many of you readers have read A Beautiful Mind? Isn't it a good movie? Hard to watch, though--the whole time I was SCREAMING at the TV, and crying. I thought his wife was going to leave him, didn't you? I don't know if I would have left him, after he did that.
But it's completely creeped me out. What if nothing's real? What if everything I know is a lie? What would I do if I found that out?
It's a movie worth seeing.
This font is the color of toothpaste. Have you noticed that or is it just me? I mean...TOOTHPASTE! Yuck. And yet, it's still rather pretty, in a weird, dental-hygenic way.
*Ahem*
News? News? I have no news. Remember me, Miss Boring of Borington, MN? Ha ha. Yeah right. OK, the news:
Dunrovin is next week
Dunrovin falls on the same day as my play's last performance.
I don't have to miss either of them.
Book club started up!
And I turned in my History Day project.
And life goes on.
Until Next Time...
